About Sarah Godsell
Hello, I’m Sarah, an experienced freelance graphic designer and illustrator. I specialise in all types of design and illustration work, both print and web-based, working in Salisbury, Wiltshire, and the surrounding areas of south west England. Of course, these days everything can be done remotely, so I can still help you out no matter where you are!
I’m passionate about design and have a wealth of experience, having worked for 20 years in the creative industry. I started as a Junior Art Director for The National Magazine Company in London (Hearst UK), working my way up to Senior Designer. After more than a decade working in publishing, full time and as a freelance designer, I wanted to increase my experience in branding and marketing, working directly with clients, as both project manager and creative director. So, I set up my own graphic design and illustration business… ‘Pick Me Design’ was born!
Outside of work, you’ll either find me curled up with a book in my favourite vintage armchair*, getting frustrated at my easel when my latest art project isn’t going to plan, or in my wellies tramping across some muddy fields in my home county of Wiltshire.
*collecting vintage furniture, glass and pottery is another passion of mine!
Design Process
Brief: I will work together with you taking a full brief for the project. This opportunity gives me chance to learn more about your business, market, audience and your specific job requirements. After the briefing, I will provide you with a ‘Statement of work’ to ensure I have a thorough understanding of your project.
Research: I start every new project by researching your industry, competitors and design styles, this can guide me as to the best way to approach your design or illustration project. Naturally this part of the process varies depending on the scale of the job, and in some cases may not even be necessary.
Concepts: I will create a selection of design or illustration concepts for you to review. These are also known as ‘roughs’ or ’scamps’ and are the early design stages, so won’t look as polished as the finished result. This gives you the opportunity to review them and check that we are both on the ‘same page’ as the saying goes.
Revisions: Once you have reviewed the concepts and we have discussed any amendments, I will carry out the revisions. Normally clients only require two rounds of revisions, and why I endeavour to ensure there is a tight brief with clear instructions at the beginning of a project.
Finals: Once you’re happy with the designs and illustrations, I will do my final checks (spelling, image sizes, colours, alignment, spacing, etc.) Then I will provide all print and digital ready files for you to use, in industry standard formats.
Why Pick Me?
If you’re looking for that personal touch, I will be with you every step of the way, to guide you through the whole process.
